BENSENVILLE — Jonathan Gauger scored a hat trick to lead the Glenbrook North boys hockey team to its 13th straight victory, a 5-2 decision over Fenwick in Sunday night’s hockey game at the Edge Ice Arena.
Gauger opened the scoring five minutes into the contest on a shot into the top corner off an assist from Ryan Maksimovic. The two teamed up again in the late stages of the second period to give the Spartans a 4-1 lead. Gauger completed the hat trick with eight minutes remaining in the game off a feed from Parker Roth.
“Everything kind of went my way,” Gauger said. “Ryan gave me some good passes and Parker. Everyone played a good game.”
Glenbrook North (37-10-3) also had goals from Duncan Coogan on his own rebound and Justin Nein on an assist by Christopher Zhang.
Robert Arner and Matthew Memolo split time in the net for the Spartans. Arner stopped nine Fenwick shots, including a breakaway, while Memolo steered aside six Friar attempts. Each goalie allowed one into the net.
Fenwick (25-10-5) got a goal from Ben Kohen, assisted by Joey Scorpio, which made the score 2-1 after the first period. Mack Sinnott lit the lamp on a pass off the stick of Alexander Davis late in the second period to bring Fenwick to within 4-2.
Fenwick goalie Pino Barker stopped 19 Spartan shots, 16 of which came in the last two periods as Glenbrook North buzzed around the Friars net.
