Empty Bowls community fundraiser on Friday at OPRF

The annual Empty Bowls Community Dinner will be this Friday, Feb. 22, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. in the South Cafeteria of Oak Park-River Forest High School.

For $15 per adult ($10 per student with ID), pick out a student-made pottery bowl and fill it with soup.

You get to keep the bowl, which was made by students in the high school’s Wheel-Throwing Club.

Several hundred bowls will be on display to choose from. The students have been working on them since September; some students make a few, while others might make as many as 75.

They also do some all-day bowl-making sessions on Saturdays, during which professional potters came in to work with the students.

Church youth groups and Girl Scout troops helped decorate the bowls.

Proceeds from the event are split evenly among the Oak Park River Forest Food Pantry, PADS, and Global Alliance for Africa. Last year the event raised around $11,000.
