Oak Park — A jazzy rendition of “We’re loyal to you, Oak Park High” was played Nov. 2 as 100 plus gathered to kick off the OPRFHS Alumni Association Summer Enrichment Grant Challenge Campaign.
An anonymous donor is challenging the community with a matching grant to build a $500,000 Summer Enrichment Grant endowment.
SEGs are scholarships distributed by the Alumni Association to freshmen, sophomores and juniors to facilitate summer learning.
This type of summer learning can take students near and far and is best described as immersion into an academic and/or career interest. Examples of summer enrichment programs include:
• The Physics Honor Class at Northwestern University immerses students in the academic subject and campus living.
• The Early College Program at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago immerses students in a full-time art school experience.
• A home stay French language exchange immerses students in France and French society.
So far, the campaign has raised $47,000 toward the endowment and it has until July 1, 2015, to earn $153,000 more to achieve its fund-raising goal.
You can support the Alumni Association’s Summer Enrichment Grant program by donating to the Challenge Campaign.
