Tree pickup ends Jan. 18; Volunteers sought for Day in Our Village

Last chance to have tree picked up
The week of Jan. 14 is the last opportunity to have holiday trees picked up by the Village of Oak Park’s waste hauler. Trees will be picked up on regular trash and recycling collection days, but only through Jan. 18. Trees should be placed in the regular collection area next to the refuse cart. Only residents with no alley should put trees at the curb. Since the trees are mulched, all tinsel, decorations and stands should be removed and trees should not be in plastic disposal bags.
Wreaths and garlands are held together with wire and are not recyclable, so place them in the refuse cart.

Volunteers needed: A Day in Our Village
June may seem like a long way from January, but planning already is well underway for the 40th annual A Day in Our Village, Oak Park’s a festival celebrating diversity and community involvement. This year’s event is scheduled for Sunday, June 2. A variety of volunteers are needed to help promote and staff the event, which includes activity booths representing Oak Park civic, cultural, social service, educational, religious and business organizations. There also will be demonstrations, entertainment and food provided by local restaurants. Register to vote at OP Village Hall and OP Township
Oak Parkers planning to vote in the April 9 Consolidated Municipal Election can register through Tuesday, March 12. Registration is offered from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday, at Village Hall, 123 Madison St. Voter registration also is offered from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday, at Oak Park Township, 105 S. Oak Park Ave. Two types of identification are required, at least one with the current address.
