Oak Park police blotter for Nov. 26

The following incidents were listed among the official reports of the Oak Park Police Department. Readers are reminded that an arrest does not constitute a finding of guilt. Only a court of law can make that determination.

BATTERY

Damiso D. Johnson, age unknown, of the 6100 block of South University Avenue, Chicago was arrested at 12:40 p.m. Nov. 20 at a home on the 1200 block of North Taylor Avenue and charged with domestic battery.

THEFT

Nelson Pilar, 44, of the 3800 block of West Gladys, Chicago was arrested at 2:38 p.m. Nov. 19, and charged with retail theft after allegedly stealing clothing items from Old Navy, 417 N. Harlem Ave.

An Oak Park juvenile was arrested and charged with retail theft at 3:06 p.m. Nov. 19, after allegedly stealing various alcoholic beverages from Dominick’s, 259 Lake St. He was turned over to his mother.

DRUGS

Daniel O. Ortiz, 20, of the 3500 block of South Harlem, Berwyn and Joel Verdin, 20, of the 100 block of Third Avenue, Joliet were arrested and charged with possession of about 2.5 grams of marijuana following a traffic stop on the 300 block of Chicago Avenue at 11:08 a.m. Nov. 19. Both men were given Dec. 24 court dates after Ortiz posted $1,500 bond and Verdin $2,000 bond. Verdin was also required to post $5,000 bond for a Will County warrant.

ALCOHOL

Norberto Arriaga, 60, of the 2200 block of North LaCrosse, Chicago was reportedly stopped for illegal lane use and an alleged illegal turn on the 1100 block of Division Street at 1:23 a.m. Nov. 23. Police say Arriaga blew a .20 blood alcohol level on a breathalyzer test, and charged him with driving under the influence, aggravated DUI for having no valid license, no valid license and the traffic offenses. A judge ordered him held in lieu of $10,000 bond.

Shawn N. Sartin, 37, of the 16800 block of Bulger Avenue, Hazel Crest was allegedly incoherent following a traffic crash on North Avenue at Oak Park Avenue at 6:07 p.m. Nov. 21. Police charged him with driving under the influence after he reportedly failed field sobriety tests but refused a breathalyzer test.

Christopher H. Wilson, 35, of the 1700 block of 72nd Court, Elmwood Park, was arrested after his car was stopped on the 600 block of South Oak Park Avenue at 3:28 a.m. Nov. 20, for an alleged expired registration. Police said Wilson failed field sobriety tests and blew a .153 blood alcohol level on a field sobriety test. He was charged with driving under the influence, DUI over .08 blood alcohol, and having an expired registration.

Abel Martinez, 25, of the 1200 block of South 58th Court, Cicero was stopped during an Illinois Department of Transportation seat belt/DUI enforcement operation on the 7000 block of West Roosevelt Road at 1:50 a.m. Nov. 22. He was charged with driving under the influence after reportedly failing a field sobriety test and refusing a breathalyzer test. He was also charged with illegal possession of open alcohol in the car.

CRIMINAL DAMAGE

Timothy P. Burns, 19, of Ridgefield, Conn. was reportedly observed by police kicking and shattering the front glass door of Five Guys Burgers, 1115 Lake Street, at 2:16 a.m. Nov. 24. Police allege Burns handed the officer a Rhode Island identification that came up as not on record when asked for ID. Besides being charged with criminal damage, Burns was charged with possession of fraudulent ID and obstructing his identification.
