Children will enjoy standing along the route of River Forest’s 87th Annual Memorial Day Parade to hear four bands, see floats and sample candy handed out by marchers. The parade begins at 10 a.m. Monday, May 28, at Constitution Park, 7715 Greenfield Ave., and ends at Keystone Park, 7920 Central Ave.

Parade participants include community organizations, sports leagues, local businesses, neighborhoods and families.

“It’s a good mix,” said Karen Scherrer, recreation services manager of the River Forest Park District, which co-sponsors the event with the River Forest Service Club, River Forest Parks Foundation and village of River Forest.

Following the parade, there will be a ceremony at Keystone Park honoring local residents who served in the Armed Forces. Then everyone will be treated to a free lunch of hot dogs, chips and beverages.

Scherrer said the event “is a real good way for people in the community to spend time together and honor veterans.”
