Officer, worker injured in fight at Oak Park Wendy’s
An Oak Park police officer and a restaurant employee suffered minor injuries early Monday after the officer intervened in a fight between two employees of Wendy’s, 11 N. Harlem Ave., police said.
Police responded at 6:30 a.m. after an employee hit a manager, Oak Park Police Cmdr. Keenan Williams said. While an officer attempted to restrain the employee, both suffered minor scrapes and bruises, Williams said.
“The employee allegedly struck the manager and assaulted the officer,” Oak Park Cmdr. LaDon Reynolds said. “We’re still investigating.”
The officer was taken to Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood and the employee was hospitalized at Oak Park Hospital.
The suspect was arrested, but as of 9 a.m., no charges had been filed, Reynolds said.
Reynolds said he was not certain of the cause of the dispute between the two employees.
“It was some sort of employee-related internal matter,” he said.
Wendy’s employees referred all questions regarding the incident to the chain’s corporate office.
Wendy's spokesman Denny Lynch said he was unaware of the incident until contacted by the Oak Leaves. Lynch declined to comment until after investigating the incident.
