Oak Park crime briefs: Hemingway museum burglarized

The following incidents were listed among the official reports of the Oak Park Police Department. Readers are reminded that an arrest does not constitute a finding of guilt. Only a court of law can make that determination.

VEHICLE THEFT

  • A silver 2002 Chrysler Town & Country van was stolen from the 300 block of South Harvey Avenue sometime between July 31 and Aug. 1, police said. The van contained power tools and numerous sets of blinds, according to police.
  • A red 2001 Dodge Caravan was stolen from a parking lot on the 900 block of South Humphrey Avenue on July 26, police said. The van was valued at $2,000.

ROBBERY

  • A person riding a bike on August 1 on the 200 block of Division Street was robbed, police said. The offender hit the victim in the face and stole his iPhone and $20 in cash, according to police.
  • Two unidentified black males robbed someone walking on the 400 block of North Austin Boulevard on July 28 at 1 a.m. The men implied they had a handgun and asked the victim to hand over an iPod, a pack of cigarettes and a set of keys. They then fled the scene.

THEFT

  • The Hemingway Museum on the 200 block of Oak Park Avenue was burglarized overnight on August 1, police said. The offender or offenders took a donation box containing cash, a Samsung tablet and an ATM credit card reader, police said. The estimated loss was $903.
  • $1,000 in cash was stolen from the Blue Ribbon Meat Market on the 400 block of North Austin Boulevard on August 3. Police said someone shattered the front window of the business and took the cash from the register.
  • A Gucci purse and wallet, an iPhone and credit cards were stolen from an unlocked vehicle parked on the 200 block of North Cuyler Avenue on July 30 at 9 p.m. The estimated loss of the items was $1,640, according to police.
  • A purse and a Samsung cell phone valued at approximately $87 were stolen from a vehicle parked on the first block of Madison Street on July 30. Police said the victim left a car window open before the theft occurred.

BURGLARY

  • An iPhone valued at $400 was stolen from a residence on the 1000 block of Highland Avenue during the overnight hours of July 28. The offender entered the residence through an unlocked window and took the phone, police said.
  • Two Apple computers valued at $1,600 were stolen during a residential burglary on the 1000 block of South Cuyler Avenue on July 29. Police said the offender or offenders entered the residence through the unlocked front door and took the computers from a dining room table.
