Oak Park crime briefs: Laptops, iPod, antique silver stolen in burglary

  • On July 21, two men entered a home on the 500 block of South Grove Avenue and stole a pair of laptops, an iPod, an external hard drive and a set of antique silver spoons and shakers. The men, who may have used a key to access the building, were described as both being around six feet tall and carrying backpacks. The incident occurred sometime during the late morning.


  • At around 9 p.m. on July 23, four individuals driving an older model green car pulled up to a parked 2007 Honda Fit on the 1000 block of Woodbine Avenue, whereupon two unknown male teens exited the car wielding baseball bats, which they used to smash out the vehicle’s front windshield and driver’s side window. The offenders, described as wearing red shirts and dark pants, then re-entered their vehicle on fled southbound on Woodbine. Total costs of damage to the vehicle were estimated at $500.


  • An unknown offender entered an unattended BMW parked on the 300 block of South Harvey Avenue and removed a silver and black Dell laptop computer and $25 in cash from a fanny pack located under the front passenger seat. The incident occurred sometime between the evening of July 23 and the following morning. Total losses were estimated at $1,025.
  • Sometime during the late evening of July 23 and the following morning, an unknown person broke into two cars parked in a rear lot on the 200 block of Washington Boulevard. Once inside the vehicles, the offender removed $300 in cash, two pairs of Nike Air Jordan gym shoes, a pair of blue jeans and a baseball cap. The stolen items were estimated to be worth a total of $730.


  • Police recovered a stolen Chevy Malibu on the 400 block of South Oak Park Avenue at around 11:00 p.m. on July 22. The vehicle had been called in stolen by an Oak Park resident earlier that day. No damages were reported.
