The Race to Mackinac has announced who will be participating the this year’s race. Read the release:

“The 106th Chicago Yacht Club Race to Mackinac officially has 333 registrants as of the June 13 entry deadline — a coincidental number of participants for the 333-mile race that begins July 18 and July 19.

More than 3,000 individual sailors from throughout the Midwest, the U.S. and Canada are participating in the 2014 event. Competitors come from nearly all U.S. states as well as internationally, including Berlin, Dublin and New Zealand. There are nearly 70 new entrants —either new skippers entering the race or returning skippers with new boats — this year.

“We will have some strong competitors in this year’s race,” said Matt Gallagher, chairman of the Race. “All sections—our cruising fleet, one design fleets and our open sections—each have some new competitors that promise to bring an excellent competition that they do each year.”

“We’re excited to have back the J120s in their own one-design section this year. They join our many other one design sections – Beneteau 36.7 and 40.7, J105, J109, J111, level 35 and T-10s,” said Gallagher.

“The cruising division remains strong. We have several new entrants including an Oyster 66 which will help set up some exciting competition at the big end of the division.”

The race begins just off Navy Pier on Saturday, July 19. The race is the one of the oldest and most prestigious freshwater sailing races in the world. Participation in the 333-mile race from Chicago to Mackinac Island, Michigan, is by invitation only. For the more information and the full schedule of events, visit cycracetomackinac.com.”
